I was quite surprised to see on a well-known internet encyclopaedia that Miss Zara Philips holds The Queen's Family Order. When was she issued with this? Has anyone seen her on "official business" wearing it? Is this the first instance of a Commoner [OK, who just happens to be the Sovereign's grandchild] receiving the Family Order?

I've heard this too and I have a hard time believing it. But if the Queen has bestowed this upon Zara then we won't know until she actually wears it. Though I can't think of an example where she would because she has no official duties or role in the royal family.

Officially Zara Phillips does not carry out royal engagements. I think the closest she came was a double-naming of ships with her mother. Otherwise, she supports many charities, but not on behalf of her Grandmother. Like you say, I can't really think of an occasion where she would wear the Royal Family order. Maybe she will receive something like the Royal Victorian order in time, say, for Prince Charles's Coronation as king and, of course, she received the MBE for her achievements in equestrianism.
We shall see...
