There is a rumour going round that Simon Cowell of X-Factor fame is going to receive a knighthood. I just hope and pray it is just that - a rumour!

Another story is that the new government wants more supporters in the House of Lords and so has asked for a 100 new life barons.

I see that Ian Paisley is now a Lord. Don't forget that Ian Paisley's wife,Eileen became Baroness Paisley of St. George's a few years back.How many couples have sat in the House of Lords as life peers? I know that some did when both husband & wife held hereditary peerages in their own right. I noticed that John Prescott has been nominated for a life peerage as well.What has he done,apart from being Deputy Prime Minister of the U.K. for a short period under Tony Blair? Sir Ian Blair has also been nominated for a life peerage as well. Aidan. |
