I am off to friends in Bournemouth. Sunday will see a party to watch the River Pageant on a massive TV. Tuesday will see a street party at a country club.

Noticing that The King of Sweden had granted his granddaughter Princess Estelle not only the Order of the Seraphim but with Collar like her mother and above her Uncle and Aunt, I noticed that HRH The Crown Princess doesn't have any British Honour listed amongst those she has.
Looking through, especially heirs to European thrones, I noticed a complete lack. I thought that Haakon Magnus of Norway and Felipe of Spain at least had the Royal Victorian Order but haven't found it listed. I thought that The Queen bestowed the RVO on Crown Princes/Princesses on a Royal Visit as most Crowned Heads have the Garter.
Is this a failing on Her Majesty's part or, in fact, on the part of the well-known online encyclopaedia?

Well, I suppose I could claim being half right The little Princess has been called Athena Marguerite Françoise Marie. Never expected Athena. But Marguerite is French for Margrethe and Marie is pretty obvious. Françoise is after her maternal Grandmother, so again, rather obvious. But then Isabella, Vincent and Josephine were hardly to be expected. Neither really were Nikolai and Felix. With, as mentioned, Savannah and Isla, it makes you wonder what TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would call any potential children. Let alone what HRH Prince Harry would come up with! This generation of Royals [Sweden and The Netherlands included] certainly seem to be ringing in the changes.

Many thanks, Observer. Having a look into it, there is a Frederiksborg horse. So I presume the shield with the red horse is actually a reference to Frederiksborg itself and not to The Countess' husband.
Thank you for clearing that up.

I came across the following website: nordjyske.dk/artikel/10/5/6/3426069/4/l%E6s%20artikelThe main shield is definitely the quartered coat of arms of HE Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg, as they match with what she bore as Princess. Presumably, the white dragon supporter and the white feather and blue gentian crests are hers as well. But are the inescutcheon at the centre, other supporter and the red horse crest then those of her husband, Martin Jørgensen? If so, why are his arms in pretence when HE The Countess is of higher rank?

I read somewhere that when Princess Mary was born in 1897, Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee year, her grandfather the Prince of Wales, suggested the name Diamond. I heard that too. But it was dropped as everyone would remember how old she was! [Not that the Royal Family has enough family trees and write-ups about them!] Now that Peter and Autumn Phillips have had their second daughter, you might think they would do the same. But I expect young Isla's middle name is Elizabeth in her great-grandmother's and her jubilee's honour. By the way, can anyone remember what Savannah Phillips's middle name is? I can't find it anywhere...

I think it's great to see Princess Beatrice getting more involved in royal duties. Hope to see more of Eugenie too. Totally agree. Good to see a princess of York in York. And on my birthday, too! LOL

Not sure if Buckingham Palace is open in December. Someone else will probably know, but please start another thread about that instead of posting in unrelated threads. I hope this isn't too late, but Buckingham Palace is only open to the public for a certain period of time during the Summer months. I've been three times now. Windsor Castle is a good alternative and, in my opinion, better than Buckingham Palace.

Could you see a monarch of the United States of America staying in office as Head of State for 40 or 60 years...?

Current rules are that HRH is an automatic right only for the children, male line grand children and the eldest son of the eldest son of The Prince of Wales. Queen Victoria solved the problem of the eldest son of The Prince of Wales having more than just the one child in her life time by issuing Letters Patent granting the style and title HRH and Prince/Princess specifically. The tradition of HH [Highness] fell out of practice in the United Kingdom after the Hanoverians.

Congratulations to TRH Prince Joachim and Princess Marie of Denmark on the birth of their daughter.
So, do we start speculating as to her names for when they are announced at her christening? Considering HM Queen Margrethe's Jubilee this year, how about HH Princess Margrethe Marie? This would match up with their son who was named after HRH The Prince Consort. Otherwise, seeing that the Jubilee was 40 years, she might be called Ruby.

I think it is a matter of time. HRH Princess Beatrice of York has only just graduated and HRH Princess Eugenie of York is still studying. I don't think her father necessarily has to "fight" for official roles. I'm sure that HM The Queen will be willing to mentor her granddaughters if and as and when they wish to help "The Firm" out.

Thank you Observer. I tried to watch it live through my PC, but of course it wouldn't allow me to as I'm not in Austria. What a ceremony! And everyone walked behind the coffin from the Stefansdom to the Crypt [the long way round]. Even the King and Queen of Sweden. My Viennese friend was most impressed and thinks there's a State Visit in the offing...

Sad to see the Archduke go, but he did have a good innings. He tried to do so much good work, just like his father Emperor Karl, and, to my mind, would have made a great constitutional monarch.
My many friends in Austria have mixed feelings. On thing they agree on is that his funeral will a) stop the traffic in Vienna, like his mother The Empress Zita's did and b) we won't see its like again.

I am really glad that TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's tour of Canada is going well. They both look very assured and are working well as a team. Catherine is taking everything in her stride, even if she can't use a spade properly What has surprised me, as a Royal Heraldist, are the new Standards for Prince William and The Prince of Wales. These are based on HM The Queen's special standard for Canada. What a great idea to reinforce thyat Her Majesty is also Head of State of Canada and that the UK Royal Family is also the Royal Family of Canada. What surprised me is the format. Whilst The Queen's and The Prince of Wales's standars have the central circle surrounded by gloden maple leaves, William's is surrounded by alternate golden maple leaves and golden shells, based on his label. But, also, The Prince of Wales's and Prince William's banners carry their labels as well. Why not just the labels? They are distinctive enough. Either way, I think it is a great idea.
