I watched the Queen's message on Christmas Day with my family. I reviewed the video link again just a minute ago. Her message interests me because of the singular nature that this is the sole time each year when she shares her personal thoughts and wishes so publicly.
Knowing that her Christmas message is so personal, I was interested to see which video clips accompanied her message. It featured many royals; herself, Prince Philip, the PoW, Prince William, Prince Harry, Prince Andrew and Sophie, Countess of Wessex. No Princess Anne or Prince Edward. I'm not surprised that Prince Edward wasn't included - the message is only a few minutes in length - but the Princess Royal is extremely hard-working. Perhaps she's been featured in other messages.
I've heard that Sophie is a particular favourite of the Queen. I recall seeing her in other Christmas messages. Is Sophie a favourite of the public?
I note that the Queen wanted to highlight her pride in Prince Charles and his ongoing work. That's unique for her to do.
I read an article at Christmastime which stated that the Queen had several family photos moved from her working desk to be displayed on the piano especially for the taping of her Christmas message to, perhaps, highlight the importance of family.
