I was looking through the links on the Royal News site and was intrigued by photos of the Belgian National Day.
My question is: Who is the man in uniform who often appears on the second row? And why is his sash a darker purple to those worn by the Royal Family?

I'm sorry about that! Your message got caught in a spam filter through no fault of your own. I've removed that filter so it won't happen with that word again.

I have done a bit of research into members of the Royal Family, and believe this man standing there with the darker slash than the others, is His Royal Highness, Prince Alexander of Belgium (born: 1942). He is the son of King Leopold III of Belgium, he is also half-brother to King Albert II of Belgium. He has no official royal duties, and is NOT in the line of succession to the Belgian Throne due to his birth circumstances and his marriage.
I hope this was helpful. Please email me for further questions, or if you need someone to do some genealogy for you or your friends or family.

Removed because for some reason it keeps showing up as the latest post.
Updated in 2015: I'm restoring this message to the board. Let's see if it keeps its place this time.
