I have just read on an Austrian news site that the engagement of Princess Madeleine and Jonas Bergström has been officially announced. A wedding is apparently not envisaged before the Autumn of 2010, after that of her elder sister HRH Crown Princess Victoria.

He reminds me a bit of Prince Henrik of Denmark when he was younger.
It will be interesting to see when the wedding will be. With her sister's wedding and the elections in October, I would think it would be in 2011 at the earliest?

I was actually struck by how much, in some photos, Jonas Bergström looks like HRH Crown Prince Felipe of Spain. Well, to me, anyway.

I'm told that Jonas, as the husband of the Princess will be titled Duke of Halsingland and Gastrikland. Doea anyone know if this was always the case in Sweden?

The precedent is Madeleine's sister's fiancé Daniel Westling who will take on Crown Princess Victoria's ducal title of Västergötland. What is unclear is whether Jonas Bergström will be made a Prince of Sweden as well, like Daniel Westling. I suspect not as he is not marrying the future Monarch as Daniel Westling is. |
