As Special Representative for International Trade and Investment, isn't it about time that HRH The Duke of York was appointed to the Order of St Michael and St George to help the Duke of Kent out? Doesn't the British Government think he's doing a good enough job?
I sometimes don't understand the policy as far as bestowing orders is concerned compared with Continental Europe.

Doesn't he already have the Garter as the Queen's son? (asking because william has it and he's done far far less than Andy)

Yes, he jumped straight from a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO) to the Order of the Garter. It would seem the right Order for all of the Duke of York's work abroad.
There is currently no other Royal Member than the Duke of Kent - not even the Prince of wales or the Duke of Edinburgh. Who is going to take over as Grand Master from the Duke of Kent when the time comes? Again, the Duke of York seems the obvious choice.

Hi Dukeofearl.
The Queen is Sovereign of all orders rather than Grand Master. The Grand Master is a kind of deputy, like Govenors General are the Monarch's deputy in Commonwealth countries.
The Princess Royal was recently appointed Grand Master of the Royal Victorian Order after HM The Queen Mother passed away. Because of his work abroad, I thought that the Duke of York would be ideal to step into the Duke of Kent's shoes when the time comes, but should at least be appointed to the Order in the meantime.
Btw, the children of TRH The Earl and Countess of Wessex are legally still Princess Louise and Prince James of Wessex as Letters Patent haven't been issued to the contrary. However, the Earl and Countess of Wessex made it known that they wished to keep their children out of the limelight and would prefer them to be known by titles equivalent to children of an earl, to which The Queen consented.
However, I'm sure that has been discussed already.

After the adverse publicity for HRH The Duke of York since I first posted this item, I think I realise why he hasn't been appointed to the Order of St Michael and St George...

I think it is a matter of time. HRH Princess Beatrice of York has only just graduated and HRH Princess Eugenie of York is still studying. I don't think her father necessarily has to "fight" for official roles. I'm sure that HM The Queen will be willing to mentor her granddaughters if and as and when they wish to help "The Firm" out.
