I was wondering if the subject of the the name of Swedish royal house had been addressed once any children of Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel ascend the throne? Will it continue as the House of Bernadotte or will it become the House of Westling? I know with the Netherlands its still the House of Orange, when really each of the last two Queen's have been a product of a new House if they had used their fathers name.

I must admit that when reading the subject of this discussion thread I thought you might be commenting on the unfortunate and disappointing scandal involving Sweden's king. I'm so glad it isn't! I am so tickled for Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel! I watched their wedding online with delight and I wish them the very best. www.royalcourt.se/kungafamiljen/hkhprinsdaniel.4.40e05eec12926f2630480004311.htmlI found the link (above) to the Swedish royal family's site. The page is about Prince Daniel. It is in Swedish but even an English reader can see from the excerpt (below, in quotes) that they are styling Daniel's name with the surname of Bernadotte (the Swedish royal house). "Olof Daniel Westling Bernadotte, Prins av Sverige, Hertig av Västergötland" Hence, any children of Victoria and Daniel will, without question in my mind, be given the surname of Bernadotte.

I would think it would be the House of Bernadotte since he is not of royal birth. Just a guess though.

I am looking for information on a Princess who was dethroned for marrying a commoner. She was a relative of mine. I have a portrait of her. I don't have any details of her other than that. My Grandmother's maiden name was Johnson or Johnston. She came to the United States from Sweden. If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it. My oldest brother did do a family tree many years ago. But it was lost. He went as far as Switzerland in the 1600's.

To be "dethroned," a person would have to hold a throne, i.e., be king or queen regnant and not simply a princess. Sweden has been ruled by only three women as queens regnant - Margaret (1389–1412), Christina (1632–1654) and Ulrika Eleonora (1718–1720) - and none lost her throne for marrying a commoner. The first was also ruler of Denmark, Norway etc under the Union of Kalmar, and was queen consort before becoming regent and then queen regnant. The second never married and abdicated when she became a Roman Catholic. The third abdicated in favor of her husband Frederick I (also Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel) of and subsequently was queen consort. I suspect that your story, sorry to say, is just a family myth.
