Dr. Péter Boross, the former PM of Hungary recently has been asked about the new constitution of the country which will be ready for 2011. Boross considered he can imagine that the new constitutional government will be kingdom. Boross is advisory member of the committe preparing the new constitution.

Does the former PM propose returning the Habsburgs to the throne? i assume it would be the Archduke Karl who has been head of the family since his father Otto stepped down as the head of the House a few years back.

The ex-PM did not mention the person of the king, but what I gather from his speech he envisioned a regency like between WWI and II we had in Hungary. Finding a king would be a next and not indispensable step. Boross put the emphasis on the tradition and the doctrine of the Holy Crown of Hungary as the symbol of Hungarian statehood.
From a legitimist point of view Archduke Karl would be rightful heir. However he is basically unknown in Hungary, and I have never heard him speaking our language. On the other hand his younger brother Archduke György (Georg) is very popular in Hungary, speaks the language, lives here, served as Hungarian ambassador and then as president of the Hungarian Red Cross. He is also basically a neighbour to the current PM Viktor Orbán. I also have the impression that Otto actually has divided his "empire" between his sons: Karl became the Austrian and György the Hungarian Habsburg.
There are some other currents as well. Some would favor a Count Crouy-Chanel or a Scottish Drummond who claim to descend from Árpád dynasty. Even the Duke of Anjou has some following, and is recommended by some monrachists.

Thank God! I have waited for this day for many years. I hope it goes through. I would love to see Archduke Georg as King, but then again, personally, I would really like to see someone from the Scottish Drummonf family be crowned King of Hungary.
I think a lot more countries will be doing this in the future, not necessarily for the pomp and ceremony but rather for the money a King brings in to a country.

Crown Prince Otto von Hapsburg of Austria-Hungary is very well-known for speaking the majority of languages that were spoken in the old Empire of Austria & the old Kingdom of Hungary.
