Kate's engagement ring

It is reported that Prince William gave his mother's (Diana's) engagement ring to Kate Middleton. But it looks to me like the setting is different. Diana's sapphire was held in place by two prongs at each of the four corners, while Kate's has prongs all around the central stone. The London Telegraph reports that the ring didn't even need to be resized for Kate, so did Diana have the stone reset at some point?

The ring looks smaller than I remember it. I was wondering if the ring is in white gold or in yellow gold. By looking at pictures of Diana it contrasts with her wedding ring so it looks like white gold whereas on Kate it looks like yellow gold.
