Since the announcement of Prince William and Catherine's new titles Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, there seemed to be some disappointment that she was not made a princess. People are not sure what to call her, or if she is even a princess at all.
Some think that she IS a princess. Because she is the wife of Prince William, one of her titles would be 'Princess William' - whether she uses it or not.
However a reporter on Twitter, who has contacts with Buckingham Palace says that BP is insistent that she is not a princess at all because she was made a Duchess.
What do you think?

If Buckingham Palace told him she's not a princess, I have to think that's the answer, because they are the last word on the subject... but it's all very confusing.
Still, if I'm not mistaken, Princess Diana's title was never officially Princess Diana, so maybe we are worrying too much about this.

Catherine has the style and title of princess and duchess because she is married to a man who holds the style and title of prince and duke. When he becomes king, she will be styled queen consort. The present queen has not made her either a princess or a duchess in her own right because it is not UK practice to do so. In the unlikely event that she divorces Willima, she will lose the right to use all styles and titles except by courtesy as Diana did.

The "however", and I was not necessarily shocked but rather surprised to hear, is that a Clarence House spokesperson said words to the effect that no one would object to The Duchess of Cambridge being called Princess Catherine in everyday situations.

she wasnt 'made' anything..she married it, so yes she is a princess..princess william..as well as duchess, countess, baroness etc..but since no one would really use princess william then duchess or 'princess catherine'..btw, the duchy is a sort of appanage for william, meaning he's got his own household now away from the prince of wales, direct vassal of the crown so to speak..of course he doesnt really 'rule' cambridge lol (those things died in the war of the roses except for Lancaster)

...no. She was made a Princess in her HUSBAND's Right, she is not properly styled Princess Catherine. It's Princess William. In the event they divorce, she will lose the HRH like Diana did and be allowed to use the style Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge as a surname (just like Diana, Princess of Wales and Sarah, Duchess of York) out of courtsey.
