Hello everyone! I'm new to the site! It looks wonderful! Here's something.........if I have done my geneaology correctly........5 of the current European monarchs (Luxembourg, Belgium, Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands) share a common matrilinear descent from 3 daughters - Luise (Luxembourg, Belgium, Norway), Frederike - (Denmark), and Charlotte (Netherlands)----daughters of Karl Ludwig, Grand Duke von Mecklenberg-Strelitz and Frederike von Hessen-Darmstadt.............Princess Alexia of Greece can also claim this common matrilinear line. Does anyone know if this is particularly unusual or are royal lines so intertwined that the odds of this happening are pretty high?

Welcome to the site, Dunkeld.
Basically the answer to your question is yes. Think of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom and King Christian XI of Denmark. Their children married into many different royal families. Also, the Saxe Coburgs and the children of King Nicholas of Montenegro married far and wide.

Thank you Paulchen! Yes, I did think of both Victoria and Christian and realize that all of the European royals are related to one degree or another but I was wondering if it unusual for the majority to share a direct, unbroken matrilinear line like this from daughter to daughter to daughter...............I'm fascinated by it!

Interesting... In my family's Chiefdom, a member of the royal family cannot marry a person who is a descendant of any of our chief's, in order to prevent inbreeding. This is true all over the world in many other tribes and nations. shoulda told the spanish habsburgs.. ;D
