You will all be very pleased to know that I had the pleasure of meeting Their Royal Highnesses Prince Charles & Camilla,Duchess of Cornwall in Wellington.
Just before His Royal Highness came near me,I led a small section of the crowd in singing 'Happy Birthday'.
His Royal Highness & I gently shook hands,& I said to him,"Happy Birthday,Your Royal Highness".He replied in his very distinctive voice,"Thank you".
Her Royal Highness came from the other direction.I had my hand out ready to gently shake her hand.
When she & I gently shook hands,I said to her,"Welcome to New Zealand,Your Royal Highness".She then gave me a smile.
His Royal Highness is very tall,& Her Royal Highness is pretty short.
Then the Deputy Mayor of Wellington,Ian Mackinnon saw me.He said,"Good on you,Aidan!".
Yes,I have taken 3 photos with my cellphone camera to prove that I have finally accomplished my long-held wish to meet at least 1 member of the Royal Family.
In due course,I will be writing to Their Royal Highnesses at Clarence House to thank them for their graciousness in meeting me.
Aidan.

That's an understatement.
I'm really over the moon,as a long-held wish to meet at least 1 member of the Royal Family has finally come true.

Is there anyone else in the royal family you would like to meet next? If I had my way,I would want to meet my own monarch,Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II herself. Naturally,I would kiss her on the hand as a traditional way of expressing allegiance & a sign of affection for the monarch from one of her subjects. I did get to meet the last Crown Prince of Sarawak, the late Raja Muda Anthony Brooke, back in 1988.I was unaware of his background at the time,as I was only 11 years old at the time.I called him 'Mr. Brooke'. The modern convention in kissing hands, of course, is that one does not actually touch the back of the hands with one's lips. The act is more symbolic than real.

That may be the modern convention, but the traditional convention of kissing the monarch on the back of the hand is still accepted. The current convention of 'kissing hands' actually refers to the audience with the monarch to be formally appointed to an office, such as the Prime Minister-designate after the election of the new British House of Commons. Aidan. I am aware of to what the current convention in the UK refers but Buckingham Palace itself has pointed out that there is actually no touching of lips to back of hand in the meeting - see www.nytimes.com/2007/06/27/world/europe/27iht-queen.3.6359050.html?_r=0
