I wonder when the Countess of Wessex will receive the Royal Victorian Order, presumably a GCVO.

Does the Princess Royal have this honor? I can't see it in her bio. Princess Alexandra has it though.
The Duchess of Gloucester was married in 1972 and received her GCVO in 1989.
The Duchess of Kent was married in 1961 and received hers in 1977.
So 16 & 17 years after they entered the royal family. Maybe Sophie has to be in service longer? I don't think that either Diana or Fergie were honored with this. Does the Queen not give this to her daughters-in-law?

HRH The Princess Royal does indeed have the GCVO. She was awarded it early after the kidnap attempt on her in 1974 . She also took over as Grand Master of the Order recently following the death of HM The Queen Mother. [Princess Anne also has the higher Orders of the Garter and the Thistle now.]
OK, the others seem to have received their GCVOs after 16 or 17 years. But the Countess of Wessex has been doing quite high profile representative work for HM The Queen and "only" has the Order of St John with it's black sash. Not only would the Royal Victorian Order look more striking, it would refelct the level of Sophie's support for Her Majesty. Diana and Fergie weren't in the Royal family for so long, though I always thought that, as the wife of the Heir to the Throne, Diana should have been awarded the GCVO rather than just the Family Order.
Ho hum...

I was basing her not having it on the official site, which doesn't appear to list it amongst her honors. www.royal.gov.uk/output/Page5604.aspOK, the others seem to have received their GCVOs after 16 or 17 years. Ho hum... Not saying she doesn't deserve it. Once again I'm just going by the official site. Judging by the Duchess's of Kent and Gloucester receiving it after 16 & 17 years, maybe she has to be in royal service longer. I can see Fergie not receiving it (I don't think she received the family order either) but I think that Diana probably should have. Although the Royal Family doesn't seem to have recognized the work she did to begin with, namely with AIDS. Here are some other examples: The Queen Mother was married in 1923 and received the GCVO in 1937 - 14 years. Princess Alice, married in 1935, received hers in 1948 - 13 years. Both, hardworking, valuable members of the royal family. So maybe Sophie does need to be in service longer in order to be awarded it. Time will tell...

Hi, am a newbie to this site. Just wanted to say how much I'm enjoying it, love the latest news links. And there is some great information here. Sophie Wessex is one of my favorite royals, she seems to have fit into her role so well now & always so comfortable at events. I also admire Camilla who has grown into her role too. I hope to have something useful to contribute from time to time; good wishes to all.
