I was wondering, in "the prince and the pauper" and other stories, people would stop moving and make space for the royal to be carried or walked down without being bumped. Is this a true tradition or a fictionalization? IF it is true, was there anyone else this tradition may have been upheld for, for instance, a best friend of a royal, or someone who just worked for the royal household?

Hi, Avikar. I think this is a great question. I imagine what we see in stories is accurate because to this day there's a taboo against touching royals without permission. I hope someone else can answer in more detail.
