I am happy for the couple. It seems that the Swedish people are also pleased which must be a relief for the Swedish royal family. I believe it was the Times online article which mentioned that the King was very hesitant about Daniel - some years ago - when the relationship was intensifying but that Daniel's steadying influence to help Victoria overcome her eating disorder really swayed him to give his ultimate approval.
Since then, it seems, the Swedish version of Pygmalion has been ongoing; grooming Daniel to become a royal consort. I watched the YouTube clips of their interviews and, even though I don't understand Swedish, it was heartwarming to see Victoria's obvious delight and love for him. She spoke of how secure she feels with him. (I read that in an article about that press conference.) I believe that Daniel's seeming stiffness was more about nerves in front of the media than about the engagement.
They have 1 1/2 years to plan this wedding. Wow...that's a long time for a royal engagement! He's 35 and she's 31. That seems to be the new norm; marrying well into the 30's.

Wendy, I'd say that waiting is a good thing in this day and age. I agree that the Princess's fiance looked a bit like a deer in the headlights, but wouldn't we all in the circumstances? He has many adjustments to make (especially since I didn't get the impression from the announcement that the King and Queen are utterly overjoyed by this match; I don't speak Swedish, but my German allows me to understand some).
The princess has always seemed to me to be a charming young woman, and given that she and her fiance have been together for seven years, they must surely know their own minds. I wish them well. And I look forward to the wedding. Fortunately for the future "Prince Daniel," Sweden's is a modest and unpretentious monarchy, though the excited Swedes are naturally anticipating a glamorous event. I hope it's lovely!

They must really approve this is good. Noticed that Victoria wore red when introducing Daniel. Red is the heart a sign of love good to know.. All the best to Sweden too, Peace, E-T

It also seems to be a traditional Royal Wedding Day. If you read the article, two (other) previous Kings of Sweden have got married on that day.

i hear their wedding will be one of the biggest in Europe in quite some time.
Did not know Daniel helped her recover from illness ... good man.
Bluetooth and Niels are smiling from their place looking at the wonderful world they helped to build.
Peace,

They are also descendants of King Magnus I of Sweden who died in 1290.

It has been announced that he will be given the title of Prince Daniel, Duke of Vastergotland, but will not be given the style of His Royal Highness. I assume he will be HH. I wonder if that will change eventually and he will be made a Prince of Sweden with the style of HRH. I suspect that if children come along he will be elevated, and most probably will when he becomes prince consort. I guess they are taking things slowly. As King George VI said about elevating Philip: "It is awfully much to give a man at once."

They are also descendants of King Magnus I of Sweden who died in 1290 . as was kaiser wilhelm ii, mad king ludwig and franz josef of austria..swedish?? nope, so this marriage will bring much needed swedish blood to the bernadottes (the first of whom, despite being from the commonest background made it illegal for them to marry commoners, even nobles of sweden)

Duke , I didnt say the Royal Family were more Swedish because one of their ancestors was Magnus I . I was just showing that they descended from more than just two Vasa Kings. They are also descended from King Carl VIII.

I have seen a slight attitude adjustment in the marriage arrangments for Royals. If they're Royal, that's all they need is a concort to follow behind in a fitting fashion! They seem to be leaning toward fit, but no to much gene pool. I'm sure like the females, the males must also get their check up too!
